Froome Shortlisted for BBC Sports Personality

Amazing news for Chris Froome fans- the 2013 Tour France champion has been shortlisted as one of the most possible names to be felicitated with the esteemed BBC Sports Personality for 2013 award.

The “BBC Sports Personality of the year” reward has always been a much coveted coverage for personalities from every sport around. This year is especially special s 2013 is going to mark the 60th anniversary of the award.

The BBC group has already announced the ten-person shortlist. Despite being the champion at the most prestigious race of the world this year, Chris Froome seems to be an outsider here who is unlikely to ensure a hat-trick win for riding in this prestigious award ceremony. Sir Wiggins won the award last year while Cavendish was honored with the high-profile acknowledgement in 2011.

Post the Olympic success last year, 3 riders were able to make it to the award shortlist- Sarah Storey, Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins.

The other stellar names that have been shortlisted by BBC alongside Froome include the likes of Mo Farah, Hannah Cockroft, Christine Ohuruogu, Andy Murray, Justin Rose, AP McCoy, Ben Ainslie and Leigh Halfpenny. Mo, Hannah and Christine are renowned athletes while Murray is the Scot tennis hero who was the only Brit player after Fred Perry to win on Wimbledon. Justin Rose is an esteemed golfer, Sir Ainslie has impressed everyone with his celebrated sailing antics – AP McCoy is the star jockey while Halfpenny is a stellar rugby player.

The award would be decided on public vote which is scheduled for December 15, 2013. Voting for this award would be done via phone & for the first ever time, through the internet as well. The illustrious award ceremony would be hosted at Leeds based First Direct Arena before somewhat around a grand 12,000 crowd.
