Chris Froome Biography

Chris Froome was born on the 20th of May in the year 1985. He is a professional road cyclist and races for the team Team Sky. Chris Froome was born in Kenya but shifted to South Africa later. Chris Froome started out his career under the registration of Kenyan cycling federation but now having got British citizenship, he rides under the British License. Chris Froome made his first career breakthrough during the 2011 Vuelta a Espana as a Grand Tour contender. He then eventually finished second overall.

Chris Froome started out his cycling career in mountain biking. He then shifted to road cycling and racing in South Africa and specialised as a climber. He turned professional in the year 2007 with Team Konica Minolta of South Africa. He then joined Team Barloworld for the next season. He was a part of this team for the 2008 Tour de France. He finished 84th and 12th in the young riders’ division. He then also competed in the 2009 Giro d’Italia and finished 36th overall and placed seventh in the young riders’ category.

In the year 2010, Chris Froome joined the British team, Team Sky. His first season went well with this team as he finished 9th at the Tour du Haut Var. He also came second at the 2010 British National Time Trial Championships, which proved his capability in time trial. The next season also went well for Chris Froome as he finished in the top 15 at the Tour de Romandie and the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon. The Tour de Suisse also went well for him in some stages as he took the lead but then kept losing time in the other stages thus finishing 9th overall in the time trial. Chris Froome also competed in the 2011 Vuelta a Espana as the main challenger to Bradley Wiggins. He kept up with him for nearly a week and took an unexpected lead in the tenth stage. He was an instrumental member of his team helping them neutralise an attack in the eleventh stage. He however could not follow the main group. He lost his jersey to Bradley Wiggins on the eleventh stage but continued to support the team leader. In the fourteenth stage, he played an important part by helping his team drop rivals such as Joaquim Rodriguez and Vincenzo Nibali. Chris Froome eventually finished second overall at the Tour. Thus he equalled Robert Millar for the highest finish in a Grand Tour by a British cyclist.

On the 16th of September in the year 2011, Chris Froome signed a new contract with Team Sky for the next three years. He was also an important part of the Great Britain Team which assisted Cavendish win the UCI World Road Race Championship in the year 2011.Chris Froome is one of the most promising riders at the present moment.
